2011 is about to come to an end and has been quite the roller coaster ride. Over the last two months Applehead factory’s Creative Director, William Vaughan,  took on the monumental task of writing a new book for Peachpit, [digital] Modeling, and we are happy to say that he made it through to the other side.
The book is currently available for pre-order at Amazon and should be released in January 2012.
Below is the official description of the book:

Professional modeling is the foundation of every aspect of the 3D production pipeline and is essential to the success of any 3D computer graphics project. [digital] Modeling is unlike any other modeling book you’ve seen—it gets to the core of what it takes to create efficient production-ready models and demystifies the process of producing realistic and jaw-dropping graphics. Taking a software-neutral approach, it teaches you the essential skills and concepts that you can apply to modeling in any industry 3D software, such as 3ds Max, LightWave 3D, Maya, Modo, Silo, XSI, ZBrush and other leading programs. Modelers, animators, texture artists, and technical directors can all benefit from the valuable information covered in this jam-packed guide containing years of industry knowledge. Simply put, if you work in 3D, you must have this book.
We’ll keep the site updated about the book so stay tuned for more information.

Two entries from Applehead Factory’s Art Director, Joe DiDomenico, were selected from over four thousand submissions for Semifinalist this week from the 2011 Adobe Design Achievement Awards.

The Adobe® Design Achievement Awards celebrate student and faculty achievement reflecting the powerful convergence of technology and the creative arts. The competition – which showcases individual and group projects created with industry-leading Adobe creative software – honors the most talented and promising student graphic designers, photographers, illustrators, animators, digital filmmakers, developers and computer artists from the world’s top institutions of higher education.

The Semifinalist Certificates were awarded to Joe in the Innovation in Traditional Media category for his work on the “I Put the Can in Cancer” book, a visual journey through illustrator and cartoonist Christian Patchell’s life changing battle with cancer and the Agorable Teddies Style Guide.

The team at Applehead Factory Design Studio is excited that the judges for the Adobe Design Achievement Awards recognized Joe’s design abilities for visual communication and look forward to the awards ceremony being held in Taipei China in October.
